A new Saudi partnership begins

First Industrial Participation Agreement Supports Local Defense Work

Raytheon Saudi Arabia recently reached a historic milestone with the signing of the first Industrial Participation Agreement, or IPA, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Military Industries, known as GAMI.

Raytheon Saudi Arabia recently reached a historic milestone with the signing of the first Industrial Participation Agreement, or IPA, with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's General Authority for Military Industries, known as GAMI.

The agreement sets the scope for local work during the Patriot Deep Maintenance and Refurbishment contract for the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces. The contract provides ongoing sustainment services to the Kingdom’s Patriot system, with delivery work shared between Raytheon Saudi Arabia and Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems.

“This Industrial Participation Agreement is a major step toward Saudi Arabia’s goal of localizing half of the Kingdom’s spending on military equipment and services,” said Raytheon Saudi Arabia Chief Executive Dave Hanley.

Raytheon has supported Saudi Arabia’s critical defense needs for more than 50 years. This agreement will help advance the Kingdom’s vision of developing a self-sufficient military and security sector by 2030.

While being a historical first for Raytheon, it is also a significant achievement for GAMI — its first major endeavor toward a goal of localizing half of the Kingdom’s spending on military equipment and services.

Governor of GAMI Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al-Ohali said the signing of this agreement comes in light of GAMI’s efforts to support local military industries, research and technology sectors.

A core component of the IPA is training 40 Royal Saudi Air Defense Force personnel and Raytheon Saudi Arabia national employees to maintain the Patriot™ air and missile defense system in existing local facilities. This training will serve as the basis for sustainment of Patriot and other defense systems in the Kingdom.
